Utah summers were made for dating.

Long evenings, mountain sunsets, local festivals, and hidden gems across the state make summer one of the best times to build connection naturally.  And contrary to what social media might make you think, a great date does not have to cost hundreds of dollars.

At UT Match, we tell our clients all the time that some of the best dates are the ones where conversation flows easily, pressure is low, and the experience feels intentional instead of performative.  A creative, thoughtful date often says far more than an expensive dinner reservation.

If you are looking for affordable Utah summer date ideas that still feel memorable, here are five of our favorites.

1. Temple Square + Rockwell Ice Cream

There is something surprisingly peaceful and romantic about walking Temple Square in the summer.  The new Salt Lake Temple Visitors’ Center offers beautiful exhibits, inspiring artwork, immersive experiences, and quiet places to talk and connect.

After exploring, walk over to Rockwell Ice Cream or stroll through City Creek Center together.

Estimated Cost: $10–$20

Why we love it:

  • Easy environment for conversation
  • Beautiful evening atmosphere
  • Feels intentional without trying too hard

2. Snow Cone Date at Hokulia Shave Ice

Simple dates are underrated.

A snow cone date is low pressure, fun, inexpensive, and perfect for a warm Utah evening. Grab your favorite flavors, sit outside, and just talk.  Some of the best chemistry happens when people stop overthinking the date itself.

Estimated Cost: $10–$15

Why we love it:

  • Casual and relaxed
  • Great first or second date option
  • Easy way to extend into a walk or spontaneous adventure afterward

3. Hike to Donut Falls or Stewart Falls

Utah may honestly have some of the best hiking dates in the country.

Hiking naturally removes distractions and helps conversation happen more organically.  Donut Falls and Stewart Falls are both beautiful options that work well for couples who want something active without committing to an all-day trek.

Estimated Cost: Free to low cost

Why we love it:

  • Shared experiences build connection
  • Less pressure than sitting across from each other at dinner
  • Utah scenery does half the work for you

4. Saturday Morning at the Downtown Farmers Market

The Downtown Farmers Market at Pioneer Park is one of the best summer date spots in Salt Lake City.

Walk through local vendors, sample food, listen to live music, and pick out flowers or treats together. It feels interactive and gives you plenty to talk about without awkward pauses.

Estimated Cost: Free to browse; $10–$25 if you grab snacks

Why we love it:

  • Great daytime date
  • Playful and interactive
  • Perfect for people who want a more natural dating experience

5. Bear Lake Beach + LaBeau’s Raspberry Shake

Few things feel more “Utah summer” than Bear Lake and a raspberry shake from LaBeau’s.

Spend the afternoon walking the beach, relaxing near the water, or taking a drive through the area before splitting one of the famous shakes together.

Estimated Cost: $10–$20

Why we love it:

  • Feels nostalgic and memorable
  • Great for longer summer weekend dates
  • A fun alternative to the standard dinner date

The Best Dates Are About Connection, Not Perfection

One thing we have learned at UT Match is that successful dating usually is not about finding the most expensive restaurant or planning the most impressive night possible.

It is about creating space for genuine connection.  The right date helps people relax, laugh, open up, and actually get to know each other.  Sometimes that happens over paddleboards or rooftop dinners. Sometimes it happens over snow cones or walking through a farmers market.

At UT Match, we help intentional LDS singles build real relationships through personalized matchmaking, coaching, and curated dating experiences designed to help people move beyond endless swiping and toward meaningful connection.

If you are serious about finding your person, we would love to help.
