Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and whether you are planning a romantic evening or hoping Cupid finally aims your way, this season brings up all kinds of feelings like excitement or nostalgia.

If you’re a single Latter-day Saint right now, you’ve probably noticed something shifting: People are texting, but not dating.

The 2026 Utah Area Young Single Adult Conference is almost here!

On August 14-15, thousands of young single adults will gather at the Salt Palace Convention Center for two days of inspiring speakers, service activities, music, and opportunities to build lasting friendships.  If you're attending, we would like to give you a challenge.

Don't just attend the conference. Put what you learn into practice.

It's easy to leave a conference feeling inspired.  It's much harder and much more rewarding to take that inspiration and act on it.

If you attend a class on dating, communication, confidence, or relationships, don't let those ideas stay in your notebook.  Use them.

  • Introduce yourself to someone new.
  • Start a conversation while you're waiting in line.
  • Sit by someone you don't know.
  • Exchange Instagram, TikTok, YouTube or email addresses with people you would like to stay in touch with.

And if you meet someone you'd genuinely like to know better...

Ask them out.

Not because you're convinced they're "the one."

Not because you've planned your future together.

Simply because you'd like the opportunity to get to know them better.

As a certified matchmaker and dating coach, we see this every day.  Many singles feel like they need certainty before asking someone on a date.  The truth is, dating is how you discover compatibility...not how you confirm it.

One conversation can become a friendship.

One friendship can become a first date.

One first date can change your life.

The Utah Area YSA Conference is one of the few places where thousands of faithful young single adults who share your values are gathered in one place.  That's an incredible opportunity.

Before you arrive, set a few simple goals:

  • Introduce yourself to five new people.
  • Exchange contact information with at least two people.
  • Ask one person to grab lunch, ice cream, or attend another conference activity with you.
  • If someone asks you out, consider saying yes.

Growth rarely happens inside your comfort zone.

Neither do great relationships.

We're excited to be presenting "From First Date to Forever," where we will share practical dating strategies, answer your questions, and even do some live matchmaking.  Whether you're actively dating, just getting started, or wondering where to begin, we hope you'll join us!

But here's what we hope you'll remember most:

The most important thing that happens at the conference may not be something you hear from the stage...

It may be the conversation you have afterward.

So be courageous.

Be approachable.

Smile.

Introduce yourself.

Take a chance.

Because your story isn't finished yet.

And your next date really could begin at the Utah Area YSA Conference.
